I completed a dual-specialty Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Child Development at the University of Minnesota. This background allows me to provide the full range of clinical services from infancy through late adulthood. I was involved in research on adversity and resilience at all levels of development for over a decade, and co-authored chapters in the Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology (2009) and The Handbook of Positive Psychology (2002) titled "Resilience in Development," in collaboration with resilience expert Dr. Ann Masten. After many years of clinical training in various clinics, I completed my internship and fellowship at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. I developed neuropsychological assessment skills over two years of work at the Pediatric Neuropsychology Clinic at the University of Minnesota. I provided a wide range of services to children and adults referred by Hennepin County programs to the Hennepin County Mental Heath Center, for three years. For six years, I treated and addressed a wide range of mental health and medical issues in children and adolescents from all socio-economic backgrounds at the Allina medical clinic in Woodbury, Minnesota. I started my private practice while working at the Hennepin County Mental Health Center, and I am now in my private practice full time, where in addition to providing psychotherapy services, I offer evaluations to family, juvenile, and civil courts, including parenting capacity and custody evaluations, psychological evaluations, and personal injury evaluations. I also review the forensic interview processes used by a variety of forensic interviewers with children when they allege maltreatment or abuse by family members or others.
When providing psychotherapy, I draw on behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, systems, and mind-body-spirit approaches to tailor my interventions to what is needed at a given time. I have extensive training and experience in clinical hypnosis with both children and adults. With those who are open to it, I use hypnosis as a tool to empower people of all ages, teaching them self-hypnosis techniques they can use for a lifetime. Hypnosis can be used to facilitate, support, and accelerate psychological and psycho-physiological change. I also collaborate with or refer to other professionals to provide you with the most effective treatments, including a variety of medical doctors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, and energy healers. My orientation therefore is both eclectic and integrative.
When working with high-conflict families, I also use a network of professionals with different areas of expertise in this domain, to help me provide you with the best service and referrals as needed.
